Alcock group was first established in India by late Mr. William Johnson Alcock in 1920 after the end of First World War. Mr. Alcock was one of the most eminent Industrial, Explosive and Chemical engineer sent out by the British Home office to India. Mr Alcock died in Calcutta in 1941, and the company was passed on to his son Ronald Alcock.
Late Mr Sourindra Nath Mukerji, MSc, FIQA (London), FIETE, son of Late Mr Janaki Nath Mukerji, OBE, of Calcutta, took over the ownership of the firm of W.J. Alcock from Ronald Alcock on 19 th February, 1942 initially as a partner and subsequently as the full owner. The company was converted into a Private Limited company after the Independence of India in 1947.
In 1962 the company started manufacturing Electric and Oil Fired Furnaces and Controls and precision electrical/electronic and scientific instruments as a small scale manufacturing unit, Since then, Alcock Furnaces, Ovens and Vacuum Chambers have been used widely in a large number of defence, defence research, nuclear research and aerospace industries all across India.
In 1971, Mr. Arunava Mukerji, (MSc, MIE, MIETE) son of Late Mr. Sourindra Nath Mukerji, joined Alcock in the capacity of Technical director. After the demise of Mr Sourindra Nath Mukerji in 1989, he took over as the Governing Director of Alcock. Currently, he is the Chairman of Alcock Group.
In 1999, Sudipto Mukerji, son of Arunava Mukerji and an entrepreneur in his own right, joined Alcock as Director-Business Development. Subsequently, in 2005, he collaborated with a Canadian service provider to create the first Indian airborne geophysical survey company. At present, he is the Managing Partner of Alcock Technology Services, a leading consulting company in the field of Geoscience.
